“It is a waste of energy to be angry with a man (WTWL interjects, “or student”) who behaves badly, just as it is to be angry with a car that won’t go.”
If you’ve ever hired or managed or taught, you know the feeling.
People are just begging to be told what to do. There are a lot of reasons for this, but I think the biggest one is: “If you tell me what to do, the responsibility for the outcome is yours, not mine. I’m safe.”
When asked, resist.
It took me about 3 months to truly figure out how conversations work here and to feel like I understood the norms of the Verse. The effort was worth it times ten, though….It’s where I turn first for professional growth and learning now!
“You must learn from the mistakes of others. You can’t possibly live long enough to make them all yourself.”

“My contention is that creativity now is as important in education as literacy, and we should treat it with the same status.”
“Good teaching is one-fourth preparation and three-fourths theater.”
“Experience is the name everyone gives to their mistakes.”
“In times of change, learners inherit the Earth, while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to deal with a world that no longer exists.”
“People who get nostalgic about childhood were obviously never children.”
